Insectosaurus is Mothra just Dreamworks style.
They forgot “WHERE is Mothra!?” lol.. Excellent clip!
i love Mothra !
1) Note that both trailers avoid clearly showing not only that this is about a giant fluffy moth, but also that this is a Japanese film. The destruction scenes in the 2nd one are all of “Rolithica” (the USA, slightly disguised) instead of Japan.
2) I dispute that Mothra is a “him”, as the first trailer says. An oversized colorful floppy creature with big eyes is more female-like, and in fact most Mothra fans think so.
3) I applaud the use of the classic Mothra Song in the 2nd trailer.
Mothra is cool. The 2nd trailer introduced me to Mothra. Even the “Mosu-ra ya Mosu-ra” song! I saw it on a VHS documentary on old dinosaur films.
sure and while we’re at it Rodan can be Night Owl and Anguirus can be Rorschach
The twin fairies… It’s silly and far fetched, but we all love those girls.
Not surprising – movie trailers often have a
“stock” library of music they use over & over. I’ve recognised one piece of “Carmina Burana”-esque music used for “Braveheart”, and others too many to recall. Thanx for all your comments too, btw. Viva El Mothra!
LOL!
Not sure if that’s quite what i mean, though. Hmmm…okay – here’s a ‘Watchmen’ analogy which expresses what i’m trying to say better: If Godzilla is The Comedian, then Mothra is Adrian Veidt. There – that’s it! (herendetherant)
No – scratch that – he’s the flipside of the same ecological sociological coin, i reckon. If Godzilla’s Mother Nature’s wrathful revenger (the Id?) on mankind, then Mothra’s the protector of ALL life – including mankind (his destructive actions are not sustained attacks – just “wake-up calls” if u like).
Which is another reason i love Mothra so much – he’s the Anti-Godzilla!
Thanx 4 confirming my suspicions, oldschool! I guessed as much – of COURSE they weren’t about to show a giant fluffy moth – they’d have been laffed out of the theatres in 8.5 seconds flat (or thereabouts). Lol!
the reason COLUMBIA PICTURES the u.s. distributor for MOTHRA didnt show the monster in the trailers was because they felt the monster was not ”scary enough”. thats why on the movie poster theres artwork depicting a feirce looking insect monster. they said so on the recent dvd release.

“Mothra! Enveloped in a giant peanut covered in splooge!”
Nothing can stop Mothra….except Godzilla.
I’m writing a remake of this movie on fanfiction.
It was just released on DVD as part of the “Icons Of Science Fiction” set.
I haven’t seen this movie since I was a kid. I should watch it again someday.
I really wanna see this movie!!
you’re right it’s kind of a rip that they don’t actually show mothra
Yeah – that’s part of what I enjoy about this trailer – they studiously avoid mentioning that this apparent dread Lovecraftian beastie is, in fact, no more than a giant moth. I can imagine US theatre audiences of the time must have felt right punk’d! Thx for yr comment
Yeah – I thought as much, as it’s all just pre-production sketches. Thanks for the info!
The fist trailer was made while the film was still in production. Columbia was involved from the beginning.
This is hilarious. It’s funny on on-target some of the descriptions are, but they paint the Goddess of Peace like something out of Cthulu.
